Our products are Home Sleep Test (HST) and do not use EEG to measure sleep/wake. So how do we do it?
One component of the Jaw Activity is what we call “Nervous Gnathic Twitch”. What it measures is sudden jaw pattern (Gnathic Twitch) that reveals an activation of the Central Nervous System (i.e., an arousal). Studies have shown that JAWAC is very good at measuring actual sleep time, rather than time in bed with a high correlation with EEG (r=0.93, Chakar et al. 2017). Over the entire night, the TST calculated by JAWAC is within 5% of the TST calculated by EEG (Martinot et al. 2016).
Yes! The Brizzy+ and Somnolter are both type III home sleep tests. That means they have a complete set of sensors that differentiate between apnea and hypopnea with either desaturation or arousal. <p>Moreover, JAWAC measures respiratory effort that differentiates between obstructive, central and mixed events.
Equipment should be cleaned with a soft cloth dampened with a dash of isopropyl alcohol or other alcohol-based disinfectant. Let dry before reuse. See the "Instructions For Use" guide in the product box for further information.
While there is no technical limitation for sleep duration - Nomics’ AI can analyze even very short recordings - it is generally advised to have at least 4 hours of recording. Once you upload a recording, Nomics’ platform will warn you if the recording is shorter than 4 hours. You can then decide whether to use the recording or not.
JAWAC is lightning fast. The validity of the signal is checked in seconds, and the raw data is analysed in minutes. Nomics’ powerful AI creates a comprehensive and easy-to-read report that includes everything you need to know.
Legacy users: As a manual verification is needed, results can take up to 24h before being available.
Glad you asked! All JAWAC-powered devices are easy to use and can be performed at home by any patient. Once the recording is done, it is just as easy to upload it on Nomics’ platform to get the full report. As each device is slightly different, they all have different instructions. The Brizzy+ / Somnolter are explicitly designed to diagnose sleep-related breathing disorders and sleep apnea in particular. For this clinical use, both the Brizzy+ and Somnolter are very well correlated with an in-hospital sleep study Studies show that a single night JAWAC recording estimates an RDI similar to that of a traditional in-hospital PSG in a group of symptomatic patients of all ages with or without comorbidities. Moreover, the risk of misidentifying mild OSAS subjects as normal remains very low. Click on Knowledge Center to learn more about our published studies. Please note that our products are not designed for other types of sleep disorders (i.e., non Sleep-related Breathing Disorders) and are therefore not recommended for this usage.
